Essay 1—Proposing a Solution

Background:

In our media inundated culture, one of the ways that we learn about the world, whether consciously or unconsciously, is through media representation. This makes the fact that non-whites and non-males are under represented and stereotypically represented increasingly problematic. While many people are taking note of the problem, not many people are proposing actionable solutions.

Writing Task:

 Propose a solution to the problem of under representation and misrepresentation of non-white people in film and television.

You also need to include the following:

·               A clear identification of the problem

·               A convincing discussion of what is at stake if the problem is not fixed. (Why should people care?)

·              A discussion of who is responsible.

·              Steps that the reader can take to be a part of the solution.

Formal Requirements:

·               Must be at least 4 ½ pages long

·             Must have at least 4 credible sources besides the sources provided by the instructor

·            Must have a Works Cited page

·           Must adhere to MLA conventions.
