For HOMEWORK, writing:

  • For now, we will not publish work online. For now, please type your blogpost. It should be typed with 12pt, Times New Roman font.
  • Your blog post should be 500-750 words.
  • You may choose how you format your blog, but consider your audience and what they would want to read in your post. Consider yourself, the quote, and your audience (rhetorical triangle). What do you want to tell them about your quote? Are you informing, persuading, analyzing? What tone do you wish to convey? Who is your target audience? How can you make your personal taste something that other people might enjoy learning about
  • PLEASE write a blog post that speaks about the quotation which you wrote about for homework. You may tell why the quote means a lot to you, for example. To do that, you could analyze the quotation or relate the quote to an event in your life. Remember, too, 500-750 words is not very long.
  • If you need help writing sentence, here is useful link, explaining the seven basic sentence patterns: Intro. to Sentence Patterns. Remember, you can think of a sentence as being made of slots, which you fill in. If you want, try to write with only the basic sentence patterns. Getting used to writing with them will really improve your game as a writer. (we will practice some more grammar and sentence writing in class, using the information from the link above-- take notes in your notebook.)

Here's a tip, read before your write. Read, or reread, an essay from New Voices. Or, read a blogpost from the internet. At the least, read about the sentence patterns, linked above.

Let me know if you have any questions. FYI, I will be out of town for the next few days. I will make sure to reply to all emails by Sunday evening, at the latest. Email anytime.

Remember to arrive on time, have your notebook, and bring your typed blog-post, which may eventually be published. If it helps, pretend you are a writer for Los Angeles Times. How would you write a short, expressive piece that tells an audience about your favorite quotation
