Review the article by Abigail Zuger, "Defining a Doctor, with a Tear, a Shrug, and a Schedule" in Chapter 16 of Successful College Writing.
Use the following questions from the text to structure the discussion (McWhorter, 397):
- Highlight Zuger's thesis, and evaluate its placement.
- Identify the points of comparison on which the essay is based.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the point-by-point organization. How would the essay differ it if had been written using a subject-by-subject organization?
- What other patterns of organization does the author use? Give one example, and explain how it contributes to the essay.
