English Assignment ( Philosophy dialogue)

Write a dialogue in which Socrates, Descartes, and Galileo discuss what should be taught to students between the ages of 14-18.

1) Assume that Socrates expresses Plato's ideas.

2) Have each interlocutor mention specific points derived from the class readings.

(dialogue form: max. 1100 words)

Please use the format seen here for writing Plato-style dialogues.

1) Use a common font such as Times New Roman or Arial. 2) Use 12 or 14-point type. 3) Put the interlocutor's name in bold and follow it with a full colon (:). 4) Skip a line between interlocutors.

Socrates: Hello, Rene. It's nice to see you. Is that a new hat? I've been looking for one like that for a long time. Did you get it at Walmart?

Descartes: Hi, Socrates. I didn't know you wore hats. The statues and drawings of you always emphasize your pug nose and bulging eyes, but I don't rememeber ever seeing you in a hat.

Socrates: Well, yes; it's a new idea of mine for developing better thoughts.

Descartes: Is it your opinion, Socrates, that improved hat styles engender improved ideas?

Socrates: Rene, I'm flattered that you have adopted my questioning style in conversation. I hope that you won't mind if I continue to use it myself.

Descartes: Nothing would make me happier, Socrates.
