Rough Draft of Final Project – Proposal
The purpose of the Final Project is to provide an opportunity to integrate your understanding of how to use technical writing skills to write a proposal. The proposal should demonstrate your ability to apply course concepts to proposing an initiative or solution to a problem that you may experience in your current or future career. Please use the topic from your Week One assignment Plan for Final Project – Proposal, that was approved by your instructor. For reference, the following are possible topics for your Final Project:

  • Environmental cleanup proposal
  • New energy resource proposal
  • Senior healthcare facility proposal
  • Telecommuting proposal
  • School nutrition/fitness proposal
  • Business market proposal
  • Educational grant proposal
  • Topic of your choice (Needs approval from instructor by Week Two)

Research the topic you chose and develop a final research proposal. The proposal should be well-designed and comprehensive; moreover, it should show consideration of a specific audience. It should use effective headings and lists (if applicable). Incorporate the planning, design, and writing processes learned in this course, and be sure to cite all sources in APA format.
For this week’s assignment, you will submit a draft of the Final Project that must be four to five pages in length, exclusive of the title page, references page, glossary, executive summary, and table of contents.  It must include an introductory paragraph that presents a comprehensive overview of the problem that you have chosen and a thesis statement that forwards a clear initiative or solution to that problem.

Content of the draft should include at least three fully-developed body paragraphs that clearly support the introduction’s thesis statement. These paragraphs must include at least one but no more than three well-placed, appropriately-sized graphics. For example, you might place one image in each paragraph.
Your Final Project (due Week Five) should be eight to 10 pages in length, exclusive of title page, references page, glossary, and any other appendices. Use the template to help yourself get started and make sure you are including all the appropriate sections.

The Final Project must include:

  • A Table of Contents that outlines the proposal’s scope and structure (refer to page 525 of the course text for additional guidance and examples).
  • A one-page Executive Summary that provides readers with a narrative overview of proposal’s content (refer to pages 528 and 529 of the course text for additional guidance and examples).
  • An Introduction (Problem, Solution, Background, Data Sources, Scope and Limitation).
  • Effective, useful graphic aids (minimum of three).
  • Discussion (six to eight fully-developed paragraphs).
  • Revised conclusion.
  • Glossary that defines proposal’s specialized terminology (refer to page 530 of the course text for additional guidance and examples).
  • References Page in APA format.
