Critical Thinking: Claim of Cause Essay (70 points)
Construct a claim of cause essay that establishes a probable cause or effect for a given condition. You may choose your own topic or select a topic from "Suggestions for Writing" #2 or #4 on page 142 of Everyday Arguments. The essay must be 500-700 words and include a reference page in APA format that cites at least two sources of information.

Organization
1. Does the writing have a definite beginning, middle, and end?
2. Does the writing follow a logical order?
3. Does the writing make a cause/effect claim?
4. Does the ending give a note of finality or logical conclusion?
Support
1. Does the paper establish criteria to determine cause/effect relationships?
2. Does the paper use reasons, examples, or quotes for support?
Document Design
1. Is APA documentation used correctly?
2. Is the format standard?
3. Are citations in parentheses concise and complete enough to find the sources on the reference page?
Word Choice/Effective Sentences/Punctuation/Spelling and Mechanics
1. Are ideas parallel?
2. Are words added to make comparisons logical and complete?
3. Do modifiers point to the words they modify?
4. Does the writing maintain a consistent point of view?
5. Are verbs consistent in mood, voice, and tense?
6. Is paper free of spelling and mechanical errors?
