Scenario:

Sixty-two percent of the first-year students at Exeter Community College place into at least one developmental education course. A large percentage of students find themselves repeating that course several times before they place into a college-level course. Thirty-seven percent of first-year students fail to reenroll for a third term.

You are the administrator of the Exeter Community College counseling center. Erin is a second-year student who has just failed developmental writing for the third time. She has come to the center for advice on what to do next, and it is your job to assign her to a counselor. Jan, an academic advisor, believes that student success means staying in school until a credential is received (degree, certificate, etc.). Antwon, a general counselor, has a somewhat different view. He also believes in perseverance, but he feels that what's right for one student may not be right for another.

Which counselor would you recommend for Erin and why?
