Edu 658 Week 2
- Ready for Change?
“One of the things I learnt when I was negotiating was that until I changed myself I could not change others.” –Nelson Mandela.
The quote above by Nelson Mandela exemplifies the importance of self-reflection in being a change agent. Has there been a time in your life when change was occurring and you weren’t quite ready for it? How did you feel? How did you prepare yourself for change? Discuss your experiences, feelings, and actions in a personal situation in your life that required change.
- Thought Leaders
In our readings this week, we learned about the importance of identifying stakeholders involved in school or organizational change. In the article Keys to Engaging Thought Leaders by Crow (2012), these concepts are extended to considering how thought leaders may be involved in change in an organization. Read this article and watch the TED Talk (2009) video Bill Gates on Mosquitos, Malaria and Education. Discuss the organization and problem you are interested in influencing and discuss how you might conceive engaging thought leaders in your community. What strategies might you use to engage thought leaders? What challenges might exist? How might you overcome these challenges?
