Early Literacy in Action

profileaw558

As you have learned, children's books are an essential resource for early literacy development. However, simply having books available in a preschool setting is not enough. It is also important to use developmentally appropriate practices that maximize the experience of reading and sharing books with young children. This week's media presents one early childhood professional, preschool teacher Robert Recio, explaining the materials and methods that he uses to promote early literacy in his classroom.

Review "Emergent Literacy: Classroom Demonstration" from this week's Learning Resources. As you watch, consider what you have learned about emergent literacy and developmentally appropriate practice.
