Discussion Topic: Why are information systems so essential for running and managing a business today?

List several reasons.

Should it be the responsibility of the IT department or management to identify and define tasks for the successful introduction of IT systems? Why? Discuss. (Scroll down for more information.)

Complete your initial response to the Discussion Question. Your response should be between 150 and 250 words (excluding APA references and in-text citations). 

 Use the SPC Library Online article databases and the textbook to support your arguments; suggest any specific additions or clarifications that would improve the responses. (20 Points)

This lessons reading assignment, instructional videos and the chapter one and two video cases describes some of the typical technologies used in corporate information systems. Both the United Parcel Service (UPS) and FedEx invest heavily in information systems technology to make their businesses more efficient and customer oriented.

1. Download, read the case study and view the video for the chapter one video case one, Chapter 1 - Video Case 1 - UPS.
2. Compose a topic paper that answer the questions at the end of the video case. (Refer to the writing guidelines in the "Instructor and Course Requirements" page. (One to three pages - 250 word minimum.) ( I have attached the guidelines)
3. Using the SPC Online Library academic article databases, research at least one full text journal or trade magazine article(s) that supports your responses to one or more of the case study questions.

Use a Microsoft Word document, double spaced, and in 12 point Times New Roman font. Include your name, course and section numbers, and due date. Your paper will be graded on the strength of your argument/explanations, as well as the professionalism of your writing (grammar, punctuation, spelling, cohesive sentences and paragraphs, etc.).

Additional readings and academic research should be a major component of all upper division course work.  Students are expected to supplement required textbooks and resource material readings into the weekly lesson learning topics with individual self-directed research into the academic body of knowledge. Full-text journals may be found at the SPC Library Online Article databases. Include references and cite sources using current APA 6th Edition standards.
