Write a short essay (750 words) discussing the play, “Trifles” by susan Glaspell. You are encouraged to watch a production of the play (many are available online) but you must refer to the printed text in your essay. Remember that you are writing about the play as a work of literature, not reviewing a specific production.

Your essay must address the author’s use of various literary devices, such as characterization, plot, setting, symbolism, and irony, to develop a theme. Be sure that you understand the literary devices you are writing about. For example, if you write about “characterization” (which would make sense in writing about a play), be sure that you are not just describing the characters; instead, you must analyze the techniques the author uses to inform us about the chapters. Cite quotes from the play and another other sources use; if you watch a performance, list that performance in your Workds Cites as well.
