Reply to at least two of you classmates’ posts by asking a probing question/s and provide reasoning/justification behind your question/s. Being respectful in your reply is critical. Each response post should be a minimum of 75 words. While only a minimum of two replies are required, students are encouraged to carry on the conversation beyond just one initial post and two response post. Historically, students who participate in the discussion board more than others, maximize their learning experience. A good example of “carrying on the conversation” is by responding to students who have asked probing questions of your own initial post.
Firts post:MARIDELLIS
Our generation has been profoundly transformed by technology. Incorporating an electronic health record system will benefit health care institutions all around the nation. “A greater and more seamless flow of information within a digital health care infrastructure, created by electronic health records (EHRs), encompasses and leverages digital progress and can transform the way care is delivered and compensated (HealthIT.gov)”. An alternate resolution to the one already provided in the text could be to come up with a list of the EHR’s in which are found to be the most beneficial to the institution, and most importantly, for the patients. Once a list of potential HER’s have been generated, it would be constructive to include the CEO in the research that has been made and present all the reasons why each of the prospective EHR’s will be the most advantageous for each party involved.
Madeline’s reply regarding the implementation of a new electronic health record was quite admirable. As CEO of the institution, there are many things that must be considered during the implementation process of any innovative technological systems. Madeline’s response demonstrates that priority is the patient. That is what I, as a CEO, would look for in each of my employees. Madeline recognizes that financial efficiency is important, however, she is doing everything in the finest interest of the patient while keeping in mind what suits our institution best monetarily.
SECOND POST:GENESIS
The case presented in chapter two is one that is all too familiar for health professionals in the similar situation. At times employees are given direct orders and these should be followed without much deliberation. However, in the given scenario Madeline and Sandra’s given task is much more complex. Though given the order to purchase the least expensive electronic health system by the company CEO, their professional opinion and overall sense of company direction, leads them to the conclusion that this might not be the best alternative. Though the given case is indeed resolved by both Madeline and Sandra accepting their ethical duty to patients and ultimately deciding to speak up and present the CEO with a more expensive yet more capable system of electronic records, this isn’t always the case. In a real life scenario Madeline and Sandra’s assigned task of purchasing the cheapest electronic health record system could have taken a turn for the worst. Had the two co-workers vision of the institution not have aligned, their plans would have surely collided.
An alternative resolution towards the given scenario could have been a more chaotic and less diplomatic course of action. Had Sandra responded less favorably to Madeline’s case of health professionals having a bigger responsibility to patients and her ideology that the cost difference would in the end be ‘worth it’ due to all the positive feedback they would receive, things could have turned out differently. It is safe to assume that in a moment of confrontation and deliberation between ethical duty to patients and the responsibility that comes with following direct order, both parties would have gone to speak to the CEO—however, this could have been led to an even bigger argument as the conversation would have most likely turned into a larger fiasco and the basis of any argument would have lost credibility. At such display of insubordination between co-workers it is safe to say disciplinary action could have turned out to be the main priority rather than the intended topic—the purchase of a new electronic health record. The task would have then be delayed or perhaps postponed and the institution could have continued to use the same electronic health system they were so eager to replace in the beginning.
