DQ 1
1.We will soon begin to talk in this class the use of Immediacy (aka the “Here and Now’). Yalom (2002) states that “this is the major source of therapeutic power, the pay dirt of therapy, the therapist’s (and hence the patient’s) best friend (p. 46).” He goes on define the Here and Now as “the immediate events of the therapeutic hour… what is happening here (in this office, in this relationship, in the in-betweenness – the space between me and you) and now… this immediate hour (p. 46).” I’m curious what your views are about this counseling technique. Where do you think it is appropriate; are there pitfalls; how comfortable do you feel using this with your clients? Yalom, I./> (2002). The gift of therapy: An open letter to a new generation of therapists and their patients. New York/>/>: Harper Collins Publishers. Initial post due by Wednesday; response by Sunday.
