Assignment 5: Article Review
DUE: Wednesday August 30, 2016 BEFORE 11:55 PM CST
Assignment Instructions
Review the Week Five Course Material in the Lessons section so that you are familiar with the article review.
Submit an article review of a scholarly journal article using the instructions/concepts presented in the lecture this week (Introduction, Summary, Reflections, Implications). Continue to use the same topic you selected back in week one and locate an article that continues to build your understanding of that overall topic. (Note that this week you may select a “lecture-type” article that informs your topic without conducting data analysis.) Here is a link to an example of an Article Review (click here).
Include the following items and headings in your article review: abstract (incl. key words), introduction, summary, reflections, and implications. Note that this is the first assignment in this course that requires an abstract. Note that abstracts give a concise snapshot as to what is contained in the paper you are writing, not the article you are reviewing.
The article review should be 600-7000 words or more in the main body of text and should be formatted in APA using a title page, abstract, and references page. No author’s note on the title page is needed. Upload the completed Word.doc as an attachment in the Assignments section...... NOTE: SELECT AN ARTICLE THAT WAS PUBLISHED WITHIN THE LAST TEN YEARS.
NOTE: Do not use macros or automatic referencing in your papers for this course. The auto features usually cause unforeseen problems in format. Plus, part of this course involves the student’s acquisition of the essentials of the APA style format.
Follow the Submissions Guidelines as listed in the Syllabus: The various assignments for this course should be submitted as Word.doc attachments in the Assignment section of our virtual classroom. Each file should be named in the following manner: Last name–truncated Week Number-Assignment name (abbreviated if necessary).
For example: Morrow-Wk05-Article Review
The accompanying article upon which your work is based should be saved to your computer as a pdf file and then uploaded along with your assignment, named as suits you, EXCEPT put your last name first in the following manner: Last name–the name of your article (abbreviate as needed).
For example: Morrow-YadaYada Research
Please note that you should upload two items into the same assignment area: your paper and the article upon which your paper is based.
OPTIONAL BONUS FEATURE:
In addition to uploading your paper and accompanying article for this week’s assignment, you may prepare a short video of 3-5 minutes to communicate the essence of your review to the other students and professor.
The video must be produced so that it can be easily viewed. In order to accomplish this you have some options:
1. Create the video in a low enough resolution so that the file size does not exceed what Sakai can accept; or,
2. Create your video any size you want and create a “dropbox” for it so that the professor can access the dropbox and transform the video into a smaller file usable by Sakai (don’t forget to invite the Prof into the dropbox you create); or,
3. If you have another idea that will work to allow students and professor access to your video, then use it. For instance, the prof has an account with screencast.com to allow him to store video used in this course.
If you elect to add the video bonus feature, your video can add up to 10% to your overall grade for this assignment only, depending on your effective presentation of the assignment.
