The expressions on both sides of an equals sign have the same value. A function is a type of equation. A function: the value of a variable, such as f(x). Functions are like equations, but they are more to an input value with an output value. There can be one output value to one input value in functions.

Examples of each:

Expressions: 1+2, which has a value of 3, x+y, have a sum for the variables, and 6x, is a product of 6 and value of x.

Equations: x=7, x-y=12, and so on.

Functions: y=mx+b, f(x)=ax+b, so on

2:Very good response, but I have a question. Why is it that functions cannot be graphed but an equation can be graphed? Is it ever possible to graph a function, and if so, what do you need?
