The acronym ANOVA refers to analysis of variance and is a statistical procedure used to test the degree to which two or more groups vary or differ in an experiment. In most experiments, a great deal of variance (or difference) usually indicates that there was a significant finding from the research. In this lesson, we will look at a detailed example of how an ANOVA works and how it can be applied to real life situations. (study)
An example of ANOVA in an industrial setting would go to identify the effectiveness of three different types of screws manufactured by a leading business in the industry. The effectiveness of the screw is taken by using a sample of 30 carpenters who use the screws divided randomly into 3 groups of 10 people each.
Group 1 tests and gives feedback about screw 1, group 2 provides feedback on screw 2 and group 3 does the same on screw 3. Each person evaluates how the screw was and whether it was useful. The scores given by the carpenters are used to determine if there is any significant difference between the 3 types of screws using the ANOVA test.
