1: Hi, CLASS - Identify the functions of a CSU and DSU. How are they used in a corporate environment?

 

2: The definition for CSU and DSU is a digital interference device that is used to connected terminal equipment DTE, such as a router, to a digital circuit, such as a digital Signal 1 T1 line.  The CSU/DSU implements two different functions.  So in other words it's pretty much a media converter, that converts all the raw data into something the LAN level can understand/router.  CSU is the part that is connecting to the provider side.  The DSU part is the part that will provide the data to a device.  Also, the DSU is a device that is required for the ends of a T1 or T3 connection, and the devices that are set in the ends will need to have the same communications standards.  In the corporate environment it would be to allow communications such as WAN to a LAN to like a user.  

 

 

3:A CSU (Channel Service Unit) is a device that provides termination for digital signals, it acts like a buffer between a LAN and a digital leased line such as a T1. It receives and transmits signals and ensures that signals a free of interference from both sides. The CSU protects equipment from electrical hazards such as spikes and lightning. They are capable of error reporting and loopback signals for testing. A DSU (Data Service Unit) is a device that manages digital data by converting signals coming in from the line to a network or computer. CSU/DSU operate in the physical layer of the OSI model and can be separate devices or both can be combined into one unit. Corporations and businesses must have CSU/DSU hardware because they are required when connected to a dedicated circuit such as T1 lines. They are basically a bridge/converter that takes incoming signals from the leased line (WAN) and converts it into something you can use on a computer (LAN).

Expressions are a series of numbers, variables and operators such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, which represent a value. here is an example of expressions:

5 + 2 , X + Y, 4X or X/Y. 

 

Equations are a pair of expressions that are both connected by an equal sign (=). Equations show that the expression on one side of the equation is also equal to the other side of the equation. here is an example of equations:

X = 3 or X + Y = 8

 

A function is a specific type of equation. The function deals with the idea of an input value that will lead to an output value. here is an example of a function:
