Discussion Questions Organizational Psy

Please respond to the three discussion questions below. Write a response using information from your text and scholarly research articles to support your reasoning, opinions, and arguments. Each response should be approximately 200 words or more. When stating your answers, do NOT use the same examples that are given in the text. Include scholarly research to support your views.

1. A researcher wishes to test the hypothesis that an interviewer's decisions are influenced by the job applicant's appearance. Identify the independent and dependent variables and give an example of how each can be operationalized (measured) in an experiment to test this hypothesis. (What could we use as the independent variable and how could we measure the dependent variable?) [This addresses SLOs 2 and 9]

2. Examine the "Hawthorne Effect." Describe a specific example of how your instructor might be able to produce a Hawthorne Effect in your classroom and how you might be able to produce the Hawthorne Effect in your organization. Assess why this “effect” has been so historical to the study of industrial-organizational psychology. 

3. Explore survey research and discuss how survey research methodology offers solutions to problems. What are potential weaknesses with surveys that are important to consider? What are potential strengths with surveys that are important to consider? Give an example of (a) survey(s) you have filled out and relate this/these to what you have determined to be strengths and weaknesses.
