Discussion Board Forum Instructions

There are 4 Discussion Board Forums completed in this course. You are required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be at least 500 words with at least 2 citations in current APA format and must demonstrate course-related knowledge.

In addition to the thread, you are required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words with at least 1 citation in current APA format. Responding to a classmate’s post requires both the addition of new ideas and analysis. A particular point made by the classmate must be addressed and built upon by your analysis in order to move the conversation forward. Thus, the response post is a rigorous assignment that requires you to build upon posts to develop deeper and more thorough discussion of the ideas introduced in the initial posts. As such, reply posts that merely affirm, restate or unprofessionally quarrel with the previous post(s) and fail to make a valuable, substantive contribution to the discussion will receive appropriate point deductions.

Acceptable sources include peer-reviewed journal articles from the Liberty University’s Online Library (ProQuest, ERIC, EBSCO, JSTOR) and other scholarly works to include volumes or books (as well as Scripture).

This course utilizes the Post-First feature in all Discussion Board Forums. This means you will only be able to read and interact with your classmates’ threads after you have submitted your thread in response to the provided prompt. For additional information on Post-First, click here for a tutorial.

Submit your threads by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned modules/weeks. Submit your replies by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the same modules/weeks except for Module/Week 8. For Module/Week 8, submit your replies by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Friday.

Cain was Adam and Eve’s son with Abel being Cain’s younger brother. Cain’s job was to till the grounds while Abel’s job was to be the keeper of the sheep. When the time came, Cain and Abel brought offerings to the Lord. Cain took fruit from the grounds that he worked while Abel brought the Lord his firstborn flock of sheep and their fat. The Lord respected Abel’s offering, however He did not respect Cain’s. Abel’s offering was the best that he had to offer while Cain’s was simply a token gift. After this, Cain had become very angry. Therefore, the Lord came to Cain and said “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should never rule over it” (Radmacher, E., & Allen, R., 2007, Gen 4:6-7). Then one day while working in the fields, and Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed. Later the Lord came to Cain asking him where his brother Abel was. Cain replied saying “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Radmacher, E., & Allen, R., 2007, Gen 4:9). The Lord knew that something had been done and said “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground. So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength’s to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth” (Radmacher, E., & Allen, R., 2007, Gen. 4:10-12). With Cain thinking that punishment is too much to bear, the Lord also said that anyone who finds Cain shall kill him and made a mark on him.

Today, there are eight key principles when it comes to classical and neoclassical criminology. 1) These steps include the fact that humans are fundamentally rational and most behavior is a result of free will, along will rational choices. 2) Two main factors of a person’s behavior are pain and pleasure. 3) The punishment that lawbreakers get sets an example for individuals and prevents crimes of that nature. 4) We all have an inherited sense of what is right and wrong. 5) Society provides profits so that people would not be living in isolation. 6) Individuals band together forfeiting freedom yet gaining company. 7) Individuals are entitled to certain rights and to not be interfered with by the government. 8) In order for individuals to get the most out of life, criminal acts cannot be tolerated (Schmalleger, F., 2016).

When it comes to classical criminology, Cain exercised his free will by taking another person’s life. His jealousy of Abel became the driving force to committing his murder. As for neoclassical criminology, would have lead you to believe Cain’s criminal act of murder against his brother Abel was due to the rejection of his sacrifice to the Lord.
