Today (July 20), the United States and Cuba restored diplomatic relations after years of not having any. For some background about why the two countries have not had formal relations, and what the relationship has been for the past 55 years, the CNN article "U.S., Cuba re-establish diplomatic relations, reopen embassies.

Even with the renewal of formal relations, the trade embargo that the U.S. has in place against Cuba remains. For an initial contribution to the discussion board, explain in your own words whether you think the embargo has been effective and if you think it should be lifted.
