You are required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be 200–350 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 3 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 75–150 words. The purpose of Discussion Board Forums is to generate interaction among students regarding relevant course topics. These are informal writing assignments with the purpose of fostering communication and dialogue among students. Please read the Discussion Board Instructions and Grading Rubric thoroughly before beginning the assignment.

Even a brief overview of the ideas of the Greeks and Romans clearly demonstrates their lasting impact on Western Civilization. Their thought has been foundational in literature, religion, politics, science, and philosophy. 

Question/Prompt: Analyze the Athenian democracy and the Roman Republic. Use specific examples and details from the assigned reading to support your argument regarding these 2 governments. Consider the strengths and weaknesses of each governmental structure, analyze how each influenced its own society as well as Western civilization, and feel free to compare these radical governments with the governmental structures studied in previous modules/weeks. Your thread must focus on an analysis of each government, but, as you discuss this topic with others, draw out the comparison/contrast between these 2 governments and the governments before them. For example, consider how vastly different the Athenian model was from the Persian Empire to the east or the Egyptian kingdom to the south. You might also consider the legacy of the Greeks and Romans on modern Western governments such as the US Federal/Democratic Republic or European parliaments and constitutional monarchies.
