Reflect

Successful films often strike a cultural nerve by speaking to a pressing social concern, or telling us something about ourselves in such a way that these films become a part of the fabric of our culture. This can range from key dialogue lines that people repeat in their daily lives like, “Go ahead, make my day,” from Sudden Impact, or, “I’ll be back,” from The Terminator. Beyond simple dialogue, there are recent movies like Selma and American Sniper that showcase deeper social issues. Can you think of specific instances when this has been true for you?
