A final draft should be complete, well-developed, refined, and error-free. It is important to revise your work for academic voice, style, and structure before submitting it. A final draft must always represent your very best work. WriteLab is a tool that can help you identify errors and learn from your mistakes during the revision process.

Prepare: As you prepare to write your first discussion for this week, take a few moments to do the following:

• Write a three-paragraph summary of your favorite book, film, or television program. Summarize plot points, describe unique features, and discuss its impact on society. This summary does not require integration of outside source material.
• Review the WriteLab tutorial video.
• Use WriteLab to review and proofread your three-paragraph summary of a book, film, or television program.
• Carefully consider all issues and feedback noted by WriteLab, and revise your paragraphs.
• Review the grading rubric for this discussion.

Reflect: Consider the revision, proofreading, and editing steps you have taken in the last week. Were they effective? How can you make the revision process – especially revision – a part of every assignment in college and the workplace?

Write (due Thursday, Day 3): Post your original paragraphs and your final, revised paragraphs in the discussion. Be sure to label them accordingly. Then, in 200 to 300 words, describe your WriteLab experience. Address the following areas:

• Identify the top three issues WriteLab uncovered in your work (i.e., wordiness, passive voice, subject- verb agreement).
  • Were any of these issues surprising?
• Share some of the feedback WriteLab provided.
  • What did you learn? Was it helpful?
• Describe the usefulness of the WriteLab tool.
  • Did your writing improve?
  • Will you use WriteLab to help you revise your Final Research Paper for this class? Why or why not?

Share any remaining revision questions or concerns.
