Data was collected from 64 randomly selected countries in an attempt to determine the major determinants of child mortality (CM) rate. The group collecting the data believes that mortality is determined by female literacy rate percent (FLFP), per capital Gross National Product (pGNP) and total fertility rate (TFR). The data is presented in Table 1.

Note:

CM = Child mortality, the number of deaths of children under age 5 in a year per 1000 live births.

FLFP = Female literacy rate, percent.

PGNP = per capita Gross National Product (GNP) in dollars.

TFR = total fertility rate, the average number of children born to a woman, using age specific fertility rates for a given year.
