In your critiques, you will want to point out both the achievements and snags of text, showing how the auther did some things right, but could have done others better.

 Your essay should feature both an introduction and a conclusion, as is standard in an academic setting. It may help to conceive of the body paragraphs as being divided into three sections:1. a thorough summary of your text; 2. a discussion of the text's successes; 3 a disscussion of the text's shortcomings. These sections can of course be mingled together, but regardless of your overall structure, they should all be present.
