Overview/ Requirements: Identify and discuss what type of implicit theory of crime explanation/causation is relayed in the report in an effort to explain the events/behaviors. How is the crime theorized (implicitly or explicitly)? Drawing on course materials in regards to communities, offer your own analysis of the event(s) reported in the article.

Alternatively, you may do an analysis of how the media reports the events, e.g., does the language used in the article (or the article’s emphasis) present the events in any particular light? You still need to provide a discussion of course materials in this approach.

The key here is to achieve a nice balance between description (of your example) and analysis (drawing on relevant course material) while trying to explain the event(s) or reporting of those events.

Format: The paper should be approximately 1 1/2 pages in length and must be typed and double-spaced. Also, staple a copy of the article to your paper. Note: do not assume I will read the article, thus it is imperative to summarize it in your paper.
