In the legal writing process, research is important. However, you should always have your end goal in mind. In many situations, the research will be used as the basis for a memorandum or brief. Therefore, you need to be able to use the information you have gathered, and incorporate it into a legal memorandum or brief.

In the following assignment, you will have the opportunity to apply what you have learned about research and brief a case.

Brief the 2003 United States Supreme Court case Maryland v. Pringle. In briefing the case, please make sure you have the following headings: procedural history, facts, issue, holding/conclusion, disposition and rationale.

Be sure to reference all sources using Bluebook format.

Submit this case brief by Sunday, 11:59PM (Mountain).

If you need formatting assistance, remember you can always access the Legal Writing Resources Page.
