Error page 205:
There is an important error that I would like to point out on page 205 of the text.
The gray box should state that:
- 68 percent of all observations are within +/- 1 standard deviation of the mean.
- 95 percent of all observations are within +/- 2 standard deviation of the mean.
- 99.7 percent of all observations are within +/- 3 standard deviation of the mean.
This may make more sense when you look at figure 6.10.
Also: Please note that there is an error in the labeling for page 232 Exercises 6.6 #2 and #3. The parameter you are given in these problems is standard deviation (SD), not SE. You can use the TDIST equation with the values given in the problems. (You may not have noticed this error. This is another text typo.)
