Contemporary Issues in Aging W5A1 DQ
I have heard this statement from several elderly patients who have now been let go from their general practitioner (primary care physician) because he/she has decided not to take Medicare reimbursement anymore. The patients are livid and the physicians are remorseful over their decision.
Why are these "gatekeeper" doctors refusing Medicare patients anymore? Are they allowed to do that? Should they be allowed to do that? And why should plastic surgeons and those specialty medical personnel like that make 10 times the amount a geriatrician or a primary care doctor does by accepting Medicare?
Shouldn't the government regulate this?
