Audience interest doesn’t just happen magically. Interest is garnered by carefully planning and utilizing strategies of attention. Other requirements for keeping the audience’s attention are being organized and having engaging visual aids. In this discussion, you will learn from one another how to make an effective presentation.

Please respond to all of the following prompts:

• For your classmate’s critique, write the first paragraph for a panel discussion in which you introduce the keynote speaker. Your objective is to gain and keep your class members’ attention.
• Describe three visual aids that would enhance a speech of a topic of your choice.

The objective of the lesson is to prepare you to moderate and participate in panel discussions, symposiums and forum discussions. You will do this by creating a PowerPoint presentation that gives overviews and provides guidance on using each type of group presentation.

Remember that PPT slides just outline main points; too much writing is overwhelming and distracts from the oral presentation. It is expected that the content on your PPT is clear and written in concise phrases. Your bullet points should simply summarize the thoughts that the speaker will then expand upon in his/her oral presentation.

• Be sure to include discussion points on the slides specific to panel discussions, symposiums, and forums.
• Be sure to include speaker notes that expand on the discussion points specific to panel discussions, symposiums, and forums.
• Be sure to prepare a PPT design that is creative and will engage the audience.
• 5-8 slides for each type of group presentation, not including the title slide.
