Communication Competence

Improving communication involves achieving communication competence. In general, there are five ways to improve communication competence in groups. In this assignment, you will explore communication competence in real situations.

Your assignment is to write a 2-3 page paper on the following topics:

• Describe each method of achieving communication competence.
• With each method you describe, include a hypothetical or personal situation in which communication needs improvement. Describe whether the problem is inappropriate communication or ineffective communication and why you believe so.
• Describe the difference between an aggregation and a group. Explain how communication changes in a group setting. Explain how you would ensure communication competence in a group.
• How would your approach change based on the size of the group? See page 61 in your textbook to review quantitative complexity and explain the changes you might make to maintain communication in larger groups.
