compare and contrast paper
The character of Travis Bickle in TAXI DRIVER"1976" is arguably many things, but first and foremost he can certainly be described as an Outsider, a word we've also used to describe Bobby Dupea from FIVE EASY PIECES"1970". Compare and contrast the nature of the Outsider status of these two characters, focusing on their troubled relationships with their respective worlds and the various ways by which these films communicate their alienation stylistically. Why would anyone want to make movies about such deeply flawed characters? Do you think Travis and/or Bobby somehow reflect the Zeitgeist of this country in the 70s and, if so, what aspects of their identities would you describe, for better or worse, as being somehow "American?"
