communicating and cultures
DUE 10th dec at 5pm 4 Pages + reference page explained PROFESSORS REQUIRMENTS :
2. The other element is a paper of no more than 4-content pages excluding cover page and references, which will reflect on what you have learned and if you have met your intercultural competence goals. The paper should contain the following elements:
A. Clearly stated information which shows that you have learned. This information should be presented towards the beginning and middle of the paper and have in-text citations referring back to the texts, lectures, websites or videos used and discussed in class. An example would be the Hofstede Centre website or Hofstede's book, the numerous TED TALKS, etc.
B. Use sub-topic headlines for each area of information that you want to mention. Choose the lessons that resonated with you. We will have learned many things by the end of the semester, but choose the top
6-7 and write about them. Some examples of sub-topic headings are:
Individualism vs. Collectivism
Nonverbal Communication
Culture Shock
Intercultural Relationships
C. In each of these areas that you will write about, cite which of the resources you learned these theories from and explain why this particular research was interesting to you.
D. End the paper with a sub-topic heading of "Reflection." Explain how you have changed over the course of the semester in terms of your understanding of other cultures. Remember this does not mean that you have to accept or "like," everything about a particular culture. It simply means that you have a better understanding of it. Include in this section how you think it will help you in your chosen career or in your personal life.
E. The paper must be written in full APA style which includes a cover page and running head, a brief abstract, 3-4 content pages and a reference list of at least 4 sources listed in alphabetical order, double-spaced and indented on all lines after the first line in each citation.
F. The paper should be written in grammatically correct English with proper punctuation, spelling, etc. Please allot time to proofread your document prior to submission to check for redundancy and typographical errors. Keep the paper to the stated length of 4-content pages with cover and references for a total of approximately 5-6 pages maximum.
G. Justify your margins on the right for a neat, professional look. Use 12-point Times New Roman. The rubric for the two parts to the final project will be posted in greater depth, but here are some of the factors that will be considered:
1. Content: is the information about the research and their definitions clear? Does it demonstrate a thorough understanding of what was learned in class? Are there references to the textbook, posted lectures, YouTube videos?
2. Relevance: Is it evident that the student comprehends how understanding these theories and the research relates back to his or her personal intercultural competence goals or professional life?
3. Citations: Has the student cited all ideas and theories that are not original thoughts? If a quote is used, is the page number included? Is APA format used throughout?
4. Format: Is the paper formatted in a clear, easy-to-understand manner with sub-topic headings, justified margins and 12-point type? Does it appear professional and well-planned and thoughtful?
5. Abstract: Does the paper contain a brief, one-paragraph abstract that summaries the importance of intercultural communication?
6. Reflection summary: Does the reflection summary demonstrate that the student has understood the course matter, has read the textbooks and reviewed posted lectures? As a result of class attendance, group discussion, study and mindful listening has the student made an effort to meet his or her goals in achieving an increased level of intercultural competence?
7. Reference List: Are there at least 4 references, two of which are the textbooks used in class? Are they formatted in APA style with few or no errors? In addition to the two textbooks, we have viewed more than 15 YouTube videos and read several articles. They may be used for the reference section.
