I find your reference to having awareness that cultural diversity exists within cultural groups, to be an important cultural sensitivity reminder.  Given the amount of cultural diversity in the United States, a consideration that cannot be overlooked, is the consideration that patients of different cultures, have different levels of assimilation. Some Asian Americans may assimilate more closely with western culture. Taking an exaggerated, and/or stereotypical approach could be perceived as insulting and condescending. Your reference to understanding your own beliefs and is crucial to establishing cultural competency. Having awareness of cultural factors which may influence the assessment process may provide context which can lead to identification of intimate partner violence that may otherwise have been missed.
