FROM:

SUBJECT:                SR#2: Introducing Your Research Topic

You will submit SR#2, an introduction to the topic you will examine in your final, formal report, due at the end of the semester. SR#2 allows you to “scratch the surface” a bit with this topic. It also requires you to begin exploration of the sources that will help you examine your topic in full. The purpose of this memo is to explain the assignment and its guidelines.

Context of SR#2

By now, you know a little about the job or career that someone in your field is doing. Your information interview, explained in SR#1, provided you that material. At this point, you need to learn more, dig more deeply, into what is going on in this field right now in the marketplace. Some issues that you need to explore include the following:

·         What are some of the trends impacting my field/job?

·         What is important/necessary for someone seeking employment in this field to know or have experience with before employed?

·         What hands on experience/real world exposure does a prospective employer want me to have?

·         What are some strengths of the program I am in right now—things I am learning or developing that will help me be successful in my job search and future career?

·         What is missing? What necessary skills/knowledge/training, as indicated by the research, are not currently a part of the educational program in my major?  “Giving some workshop courses in Marketing”

·         How are other universities preparing their prospective graduates for successful job searches/careers?

·
