Mexican Indigenous Influence on Chicano Art 

One can determine the original influence on Chicano art by examining the subject matter first. As per the poet of the poem, he must have made a flashback of the past and understood clearly that it is not possible to split the past from the current. The indigenous Mexicans had an experience of colonization after the accord of Guadalupe Hildago was ended by United States. The Chicanos have felt the experience of colonization as they still live in occupied land.

As per the video, Professor Herrera explains the value in studying Nahuatl. He says that the language can assist the Chicanos understand better about the people and the contemporary culture. The analysis by Herrera shows the reason why Chicano artists always include their ancestral heritage into their work. The incorporated heritage can help them learn more about themselves as well as the world they occupy. Since everyone has a past, and that past cannot be ignored as it is a path for individual introspection and also make a sense of nearby world. With this past, the current experience will just be new and cannot be understood with a broader context. Finally, a person without a past is just like no person in real world. The reason for this is that the shared past together with the customs and traditions of this past usually united the people. For these reasons, the past can never be split from the current.
