Chapter 3

profileVVAREL

I need help with these questions.

1-Just today, Maxine, while I was on a call with three coworkers, it was obvious in my tone I was perturbed by having to be on the call or that I had an issue with the person asking questions of me.

The truth of the matter was I felt like we were expending a lot of time and energy on a matter that really required only a few minutes of discussion, and sitting on the call was taking me away from other work I needed to get done.  I was agitated by one other person seemingly trying to make matters more complicated than they really were.  I had made up in my mind that the issue wasn't complex and did not require me to express the same level of concern and energy.

Nonetheless, and more critically, I know I gave the wrong impression to the coworkers, and being mentally disconnected from the call did not get me any closer to getting that other work done that was waiting for me while I was on the phone.

Class:  What could I have done differently?  What might my coworkers have done differently to make this a better phone call or to foster a better attitude from me?
