cause and effect essay

You need to bring your copy of the reading, “A Company Man,” to class with you.

You may bring brief notes and an outline; you may not work from a completed essay in class.

Assignment:

Write an essay in which you describe Phil’s lifestyle (this could be your introduction), the causes of his lifestyle (why he works so hard), and the effects on himself and his family. Support your essay with evidence and quotes from the text. Try to go beyond what is in the essay.

Follow the standard essay structure with an introduction and thesis, followed by at least four body paragraphs, each with a clear main point, and ending with a conclusion that goes beyond just a summary of your main points. Create a clear and logical organization following cause and effect organization.  (Do not follow the order of ideas in the essay; use the question to create an outline of the main points of your essay.) Make sure to put quotation marks around any sentences you quote in your essay and put the page number in parentheses after the quote.

This should be a formal, academic essay, so it should not include personal pronouns (I, you, we), informal language or personal examples.
