Case Study 2 – General and Specific Guidelines of Probation
Charles Smith, 26 years old, was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass, Vandalism, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Intoxication. As the result of a plea deal offered by the prosecutor, Smith will plead guilty to Criminal Trespass and Public Intoxication. The Vandalism and Disorderly Conduct charges will be dismissed, and Smith will serve 3 years on probation. As the judge, you agree to the deal, but you will be identifying certain guidelines for Smith to follow during his supervision.
Smith's background is that he has a clean criminal background, is a family man, and lives and works in the same community where he was raised.
For this discussion, research general and specific guidelines of probation. Then, identify and define which guidelines would be appropriate for Smith. Support your choices by analyzing the specific correctional goals that you are attempting to achieve.
