Can someone respond to a discussion?
Another theory that realties to strain theory and is about the same category is labeling theory
Labeling theory: People in power decide what acts are crimes, and the act of labeling someone a criminal is what makes him a criminal. Once a person is labeled a criminal, society takes away his opportunities, which may ultimately lead to more criminal behavior.
This is true, once someone is in the system they believe if they were to get stopped by a policemen they will automatically be given a ticket weather they are right or wrong because of what they believe they are a " criminal".
Does not necessary mean it is true What is considered deviant in one society, or at one point in history, may not be considered deviant in another; 'deviance is not a quality of the act the person commits, but rather the consequence of the application by others of rules and sanctions to an "offender"'. Labeling theory also suggests that once a person is labeled a deviant, he will be denied essential life opportunities because of this stigma, and thus will have a greater propensity to repeat his deviant behaviors. ("Redecomposition ", 2013).
