  • reflecting on and revising your personal essay.

Reflect IconReflect: Reflect on the purpose of your essay. Think about changes that you might incorporate into your personal essay in order to better support your topic and purpose.
Write IconWrite: Revise your personal essay based on the “Revision Checklist” and the suggestions provided by WriteLab.
  • Use WriteLab to review and proofread at least two pages of your revision. Carefully consider all feedback noted by WriteLab and revise your work.
  • Complete the “Revision Checklist” and upload it to your discussion board thread. Add a paragraph where you state:
    • The part of your essay you decided to revise.
    • How you revised it.
    • What techniques or methods from the Required Resources in this course you used to revise your essay (including Chapter 9 tips and techniques).

Please view the video Downloading a Document for guidance on accessing the “Introduction and Outline Worksheet.”

Discuss IconRespond to Peers: Respond to at least two of your classmates. Respond to one classmate who used a different revision technique than you did and one who used a similar revision technique. In each response:
  • Compare the resources and techniques you used for revision to those your classmate used.
  • Make one concrete suggestion about how the revision sample can be further improved. Please do not comment on grammar or stylistics—just content.

Response posts must be 125 to 200 words in length and posted by Day 7. If you have questions about how to participate in discussions, consult “About Discussions” under the Course Home menu. You are not required to support your claims with additional scholarly sources; however, should you decide to use additional sources, make sure you properly cite any references. Refer to the Ashford Writing Center’s Citation and Reference Guide for guidelines on citing sources in APA style.
