Find a recent (published within the last year) article about health care policy.  The source can be from anywhere ‐ a newspaper, magazine, association newsletter, or professional journal article.  The purpose of this exercise is to begin to use policy analysis as a functional tool.  Write a brief (one page) document:

1. Include a very brief statement explaining WHY you chose the selected topic. 
2. Use one or two sentences to describe the PROBLEM highlighted in your selected article.    Do you think the problem is real or a perceived problem?  Is this situation a response to a crisis or an incremental change?
3. Use only one or two sentences to explain the PREFERRED SOLUTION emphasized in your selected article.  Use only one or two sentences to explain the POLICYstream.
4. Describe the POLITICAL stream. Who has the power? What is the opinion of the public? Who are the key participants in the process?
5. Write a brief SUMMARY statement describing the main points of the article.  Use the Kingdon concepts to show how the selected article demonstrates the Kingdon model “in action”.
6. Include a link to the original article.
