You have just been hired by Terry’s Hat Company. You are an office assistant, but you handle many things within the company, including making deals with manufacturers. You were hired 6 months ago when the previous office assistant left the company. You make $37,000 per year, and you are paid weekly by payroll, through the company. You have a nice corner office with high-tech computer equipment and office furniture that every employee within the company is provided with upon being hired. You love your job, but you do occasionally complain that your multiple bosses tend to micromanage you.

In a paper of 2 pages, do the following:

• Discuss whether you are considered an independent contractor.
• Answer the following questions to defend your position:
  • What are the factors that the court looks at in determining whether a person is an independent contractor?
  • Are you an agent of the company? What constitutes being an agent?
  • Based on the facts in the scenario, are you an independent contractor or an employee?
