Long Report Assignment Communication 270: Business Communication, Spring 2015 Name:_______________________________________________ Read this document fully. In this assignment you are required to create a long report which details a solution to the problem you have identified in your proposal. The long report includes three general sections: front matter, report text, and back matter. Each element is described below but can be found in detail in Successful Writing at Work: 4th Edition. The assignment is worth 20 points. All written material in this report will be scrutinized for spelling, grammar, tone, and style. Pay close attention to structure, sentence length, word choice, punctuation, and aesthetic appearance. You may be marked down in any of the categories below for missing these basic and essential aspects of business communication. You must also decide the proper font and text size, but must use one half to one inch margins and somewhere in between single and 1.5 line spacing. Remember that you are being graded on the quality of your writing in conjunction with the appearance of the document. Front Matter: /5 1. Letter of transmittal (1 page) 2. Title Page (1 page) 3. Abstract (1 page, 250500 words) 4. Table of Contents (1 page) 5. List of Illustrations (1 page) Report Text: /10 1. Introduction (12 pages) a. Background b. Problem c. Purpose Statement d. Scope 2. Body (at least 3.5 pages) a. Includes at least 3 labeled headings which summarize findings from your research. i. Each heading includes at least 2 labeled subheadings 3. Conclusion (23 paragraphs, 1 page) 4. Recommendations (2 paragraphs and a list of recommendations, 12 pages) Back Matter: /3 1. Glossary (1 page) a. Alphabetized list of important terms or specialized vocabulary from report 2. References (1 page) a. APA Format 3. Appendix (1 page) a. Include an appendix if you have data or documents (questionnaires, surveys, transcripts) that are too long to include in the report text. If you do not have data for an appendix, note what kind of data could be included in this appendix if you had done more extensive research. Use of images: /2 You must include at least 4 images in the entire report, all of which should be within the report text. Each image must be purposive, intelligible, and explicitly connected to the ideas or conclusions it is describing. You must include different kinds of images (i.e. graphics vs tables vs diagrams).
