Purpose
Business reports and presentations are a common method of providing information, such as annual reports, press filings, financial standing, sales, and recruitment. While PowerPoint presentations are ubiquitous and frequently poorly conceived and designed, they are a standard throughout all industries.

Scenario
You are a recruiter seeking to hire entry level positions from Embry Riddle graduates. You will give a formal presentation that introduces your company and persuades students that your company offers the perfect job.

Company Selection
Companies may include for profit, non-profit, or government departments. You may select private companies, but they are more difficult to research than publically traded companies. Every student in each class must select different companies to present. If you have a favorite, let me know early to reserve it.

Research
The quality of the material, depth of research, and informative value of the material in the presentation will account for 30 points of the grade.

Consider what information would convince you to join a company. For example, the material might include:

Company History
• Salary Standing
• Company Reputation
• Possible Career Ladders
• Leadership
• Financial Standing
• Product Lines
• Current or Past Litigation
• Company Press Releases
• Outside Press
• Community/Charitable Involvement
• Hiring Practices
• Company Culture
• Environmental Effect
• Forecast for Future Developments

Note: You do not need to cover all of these topics. They are just suggestions.

Research Requirements
When researching a company, you should look at more than one source. It is important to read outsider’s viewpoints as well as the company website. Reviewing professional journals and newspapers, such as The Wall Street Journal may provide better information than the company itself.

A minimum of 5 credible sources are required.
Credible sources are from vetted websites and respected trade journals. Wikipedia is not a valid source for a college essay; however, it may be a good place to start. Scroll to the bottom and look at the sources. 

Timeliness is also important. The world of business changes daily. No source should be older than two years. Keep in mind that for some companies, two years is ancient history. 

Presentation
The 40 presentation points will be for timeliness and speech quality.

The presentation should be 7-10 minutes. It will be timed. A point deduction will be made for going over or under the time limits.

In addition points will be awarded for poise, diction, eye contact, command of space, and voice volume. 
Dressing for a presentation can be tricky. What would a representative of the company wear? The answer will depend on the company culture.

PowerPoint
The visual element of the presentation is worth 30 points. 

The PowerPoint should be long enough to engage the audience for the length of the presentation. 

Required Elements
• An introductory slide with your name and the company name
• A table
• A graph
• A Smart Art element
• A Works Cited slide in either APA or MLA format. 

Up to 2 minutes of video may be used.
