The acid test & flattening cash flow over the fiscal year
Examples of businesses that have evened out cash flow
look around at businesses in your area. Some businesses have added an Internet store, others have purchased a complementary business that experiences the opposite seasonality. Let's see some examples! I'll start:
Barnes & Noble has tried to combat their lower sales by adding the Nook and an Internet component to their store and publications. When I lived in Colorado in the late 1990's many of the bike stores had added an e-commerce site on the Internet since their sales were huge in the summer, but very low in the winter months.
Baskin Robins has teamed up with Dunkin' Donuts in my neighborhood. Baskin Robins is obviously more popular in the summer, so they needed a complementary business to help even out the cash flow.
What other examples can you give?
