Budgeting Chicken Noodle Soup
For my final Portfolio Project, I am going to pick Option #1 Budgeting. The product I am going to pick to manufacture is Chicken Noodle Soup, much like Campbell’s. I chose chicken noodle soup because it’s such a staple in everyone’s pantry. Who hasn’t been given chicken noodle soup when they were sick or ate some chicken noodle soup on a cold, snowy night, not unlike tonight? Chicken noodle soup is a classic comfort food. It was my favorite soup growing up. I didn’t like tomato soup, so when we had grilled cheese, my mom made me my own batch of chicken noodle soup. Not only is it a staple and a comfort food, but it is also easy to make.
The recipe for chicken noodle soup is easy. Ingredients include broth, water, carrots, celery, pepper, 1 inch slices of chicken, and pasta (Campbell’s. 2014). I would buy all ingredients from outside vendors however, the broth, pasta and pre-sliced chicken would already be prepared. I will not have to make pasta, slice chicken or create broth.
To make the soup, an automated assembly line would be used. In one department, measured amounts of broth, water, carrots, celery, pepper and sliced chicken will be brought to a boil. Once these items are brought to a boil, pasta will be added and temperatures reduced. The mixture will continue cooking for approximately ten minutes to ensure noodles are soft and chicken is fully cooked. Next, measured amounts of the full mixture will placed into appropriate storage containers, such as an aluminum can or glass jar, and after a set amount of cooling time packaged for bulk shipping to retailers.
