Brick Kin
British and Celtic Mythology Comic Strip Project
For this project, students have a choice of subject matter, but both will require an original creation. Mythical creatures and creation stories appear in the mythologies of many cultures. This unit presented a few mythological creatures, but no creation story. This is because the British/Celtic creation story is not a definite one. Students should review the material from the unit then choose an option below.
Option 1: Original Creation Story
Write a British or Celtic creation story, that is original. The story can apply to British mythology, Celtic mythology, or be a combination for both.
Option 2: Original Mythological Creature
Develop an original mythological creation and a story for this creature. The creature could appear in British mythology, Celtic mythology, or both. This creature can appear in the story of a hero from this unit, or can appear in an original story.
Directions:
This project will be completed using a comic book creator program. The comic strip should be long enough to tell the entire story. It should include graphics and words. In order to submit the assignment, students may need to take a screen shot of the comic strip, or submit the web link to the comic strip, by copy and pasting the link in a Word document and placing it in the dropbox. Students will also need to submit a paragraph version of this story. The script version of the story should be typed, double-spaced, and use correct grammar and conventions.
Submit both the link to the comic strip and the paragraph version to the appropriate dropbox. Comics may also be submitted as a saved picture document or screen shot.
See the rubric in the sidebar for more details about the assignment.
Below is an example using Pixton, but there are other programs available. Each website works a little differently, so be sure to look for tutorials. Students also have the option of drawing a comic strip by hand and scanning the comic strip into the computer and submitting in that format. Here are some options for online comic creators:

** The length of the story, whether it is for the creature or creation story) should be at least four frames. Keep in mind that many frames could have few words, or fewer frames could have many words. Either format is fine, as long as it tells a full story. Some stories may need much more than four frames, while some may be told with just a few.
** Remember that in addition to submitting the link for the comic strip, students must also submit a version of the story in paragraph format. This need not be anything glamorous, just a paragraph version of the story told in the comic strip. Remember to use MLA (double spacing, indents, etc.) and use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
