In life, one must overcome obstacles in order to stand up for what they believe in. The protagonists of The Giver and Rules are both faced with obstacles in order to stand up for their beliefs. What was the belief that Jonas and Catherine were afraid to expose? What obstacles did Catherine and Jonas face? How did others infuence their decisions? Use details from both novels in your response.

In your essay, be sure to include the following:
-describe the obstacles that Jonas faced in oder to stand up for what  he thought was right.
-describe the obstacles that Catherine faced in order to stand up for what she thought was right.
-explain how Jonas and Catherine both changed the lives of others by standing up for what they felt was right.
