Select one book from the list attached to the syllabus.  The books that have been starred* explore mental illness or a mental health program from a personal perspective.  

Please respond to the following questions:

In 2 or 3 paragraphs give an overview of the book, what was the purpose for the author writing this book?  What were they trying to tell the reader?

How was the mental illness and or the person portrayed in the book?  Were there instances of stigma, acceptance, stereotyping?   If they were seen by a mental health professional, how were they treated?  If they were hospitalized, how were they treated? 

How were the systems of care portrayed?  Caring, uninterested?

What did you learn from reading this book?

The assignment should be 4-5 pages.  You can include brief portions of the text to illustrate your responses.
